Members of the Glenview Concert Band presented An Evening of Chamber Music on March 16 at Glenview United Methodist Church. Our emcee for the evening was our illustrious director, Greg Wojcik.
The evening’s music varied from the silly to the sublime. Silly tunes such as
“Mother Goofs” and “The Nights of the Round Table” from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” were performed by our humorous low brass sections. The fabulous Flute and Clarinet sections played show tunes from “Wicked” and "Pirates Of the Caribbean”. The super Sax section, woodwind trio, and German Band presented music from Brazil, Mexico, and Germany. Opera music by Verdi and Mozart was performed by our terrific Trumpets and woodwind trio. The super sax section and horn trio entertained the audience with 20th century contemporary selections by Duke Ellington and George and Ira Gershwin. Classical music by Gustav Holst was heard from the honorable horn section and the fabulous Clarinet section played Fucik.
However, the highlight of the evening was the presentation of music arranged by
our very own band members. The woodwind quartet performed “Tribute to John
Williams” arranged by our oboist, Tressa Meyer and percussionist Justin Askenazy
arranged Copeland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” performed by our awesome
percussion section. Both arrangements were well done and well received by the
audience.
The evening was filled with camaraderie and wonderful music!
